  • The Director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) recognized the work and commitment that TAG Airlines, the flag carrier of Guatemala, has and fulfills in promoting connectivity and the Mayan World

The tourism authorities that make up the Mundo Maya Organization (Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico) held their 77th regional meeting in Antigua, Guatemala, with the purpose of achieving sustainable tourism development of the Mundo Maya Region through the promotion and contribution to the conservation of the historical heritage and culture of the countries that comprise it.

The top authorities of the organization that began in 1988 as the Mayan Route and that later on 14 August 1992 established its constitutive agreement under the name of Mundo Maya Organization emphasized the efforts to develop actions that continue to position the region as a tourist multi-destination with the aim of attracting a greater number of tourists to the entire region.

To facilitate the search for places desired by tourists from the different continents, one of the main objectives of the meeting was to launch an interactive map of the entire region that will be available in December through the website www.gomundomaya.com and in which users can locate the most emblematic archaeological sites and natural reserves of each of the countries that were the cradle of the Mayan civilization.

This new digital tool was designed by a team of professionals from the Guatemalan Tourism Institute. It seeks to provide great benefit to both local, regional and foreign tourists; as well as for businessmen and tourist guides of the region, since it will allow to present in greater detail the places, attractions, entrance fees and location of the interesting archaeological and natural environments of the 5 countries.

The Honorary Presidency and executive directorship of the Mundo Maya Organization, which is currently held by the Ministry of Tourism of Honduras, recognized the work of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, in facilitating this cartographic instrument.

The work of TAG Airlines is highlighted

At this meeting, Anayanzi Rodriguez, Director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) also recognized the work and commitment that TAG Airlines, the flag carrier of Guatemala, has and fulfills in promoting connectivity and the Mayan World.

In responding Julio Alejandro Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines said that “as Tag Airlines, we are committed to strengthening our efforts to continue connecting destinations in the region, as well as offering the best service to our passengers. This is a recognition that involves six decades of work in favor of air connectivity and regional development. Currently, we have a daily flights between Cancun and Guatemala, as well as serevice to Oaxaca, Merida and Tuxtla Gutierrez, in addition to three weekly flights between Merida and Flores, and four between Cancún and Flores. All of that allows our company to offer the connectivity that Mundo Maya needs to promote a multi-destination option in the region”.
