  • For the first time in its history, ALTA will hold a conference in Chile

The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the 12th ALTA Pan American Aviation Safety & Ops Summit to be held June 12-14, 2023 in Santiago, Chile.

The event will bring together safety, crew, personnel and operations professionals, as well as industry leaders to address current and future challenges in aviation safety and operations.

“Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the safest regions in the world where operators keep the highest levels of safety, including technologies and processes that make it a fatality-free region today. The industry’s commitment to continue raising these standards is very strong and that is why this event will bring together all the experts in the field to continue strengthening the safety culture in companies,” said José Ricardo Botelho, ALTA’s Executive Director & CEO.

The safety culture starts with promoting and ensuring the wellbeing of all who serve in the industry, as well as implementing technology and operational improvements. This involves educating and training all stakeholders, from pilots and crew to maintenance personnel and air traffic controllers, including office staff.

“Safety is the responsibility of every individual and every action counts. That is why human factors is an important topic to discuss at this conference. How our colleagues are doing impacts how we operate. Therefore, taking preventive, educational and preparedness actions is key. In other words, addressing the issue as pertaining to the culture and not as a solution when it becomes a problem,” highlights Virginio Corrieri, ALTA’s Head of Safety.

The conference’s academic agenda includes a special message on the importance of safety culture by airline leaders in the country, followed by a presentation on safety and sustainability performance in the region. There will also feature panels on collaborative safety teams and human factors, where leading industry experts will share their experience and expertise.

The second day of the academic agenda will feature panels that will address safety key points such as data analysis and the Safety Management System (SMS) in maintenance organizations. In addition, there will feature a panel on the synergy between safety and operations, where the importance of evidence-based training, fatigue management and other relevant topics will be discussed.

The summit will also feature special presentations on safety leadership and crisis communications by prominent industry leaders. Furthermore, a space will be dedicated to sharing best practices in safety and risk management, as well as an update on Chilean commercial aviation safety.

“We are thrilled about ALTA’s first event in Chile. I am convinced that it will be an extremely enriching space for the exchange of expertise and experiences and this will contribute to strengthen the safety culture and operational excellence in our region,” Botelho adds.
