Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) is pleased to announce that Panama’s Tocumen International Airport, the Hub of the Americas, has been certified under the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program, granted to ACI member airports that are aligned and in compliance with the health protocols proposed by the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) and the ACI Business Restart and Recover guidelines.
Tocumen International Airport, one of the most important hubs in the region carrying more than 16 million passengers in 2019 and around 4.5 million in 2020 despite the Covid 19 pandemic. The Hub of the Americas continue conneccting passengers with all the safety measures and now more than ever these have been successfully implemented.
“Air transport is a key driver for global economic recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the achievement of Tocumen International Airport being accredited through ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation program will promote the harmonization of health measures and facilitate aviation recovery in the region”. commented Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.
The General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, Raffoul Arab emphasized “that obtaining this certification is not only an important recognition for Tocumen International Airport, but also represents a guarantee of sanitary safety for visitors who choose our country for tourism”.
“The delivery of this accreditation is an essential element that motivates us to continue strengthening our strategy of differentiation and innovation, offering a safe and pleasant travel experience, based on biosecurity,” Arab highlighted.
The implementation of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program is key for the industry as it allows airports to demonstrate passengers, staff, and other regulators that their top priority is health and safety in a measurable, coordinated, and established manner.
The program evaluates cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, communication with passengers, and passenger facilities.
ACI-LAC encourages airports to become part of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program, a tool that helps airports to continue implementing health protocols in order to generate confidence for the well-being of passengers, staff and the general public and continuing with the main priority of the aviation industry, which is aviation safety,as well as the health of its users.
