Panama, April 14, 2020 – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announces that Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 24.2 million passengers in February, up 4.5% – or 1,049,391 additional passengers – from the previous year. Traffic (RPK) increased 2.6% and capacity (ASK) increased 4.7%, bringing the load factor to 79%, 1.6 percentage points lower than in 2019. (see table 1).

Traffic to/from Latin America & Caribbean

Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 2.18 million passengers to and from Latin America and the Caribbean in February, down 1% from the previous year (see table 2). Traffic (RPK) decreased 0.8% and capacity (ASK) increased 1.2%, bringing the load factor to 78.5%.

Domestic Traffic

Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 18.5 million domestic passengers in February, and up 6.6% from the previous year. Capacity (ASK) increased 7.8%, bringing the load factor to 79%.

International Traffic

Latin American and Caribbean airlines carried 5.7 million international passengers in February, of which 3.5 million were international passengers within the region and 2.2 million outside the region. Argentina-Brazil was the most important intra-regional market while Mexico-USA was the most important extra-regional market.
