Aerolíneas Argentinas has confirmed that more than 2,000 foreign residents have returned to their home countries in flights operated by the company.
A few weeks ago, the company was authorized to carry foreign residents in the outbound segments of some of its flights. This new stage began with the flight to Quito on April 12, which carried 187 Ecuadorian citizens.
The company also carried passengers to London, Madrid, Barcelona, Miami, Rome, Montevideo, Asuncion, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Lima, Cancun and Punta Cana.
In the same vein, the company confirmed a new flight to Rome, scheduled to depart on May 15, which will carry 100 Italian citizens, and two flights to Madrid, scheduled to depart on May 23 and 26, which will carry over 200 Spanish citizens.
Just like each flight intended to bring back Argentine citizens is decided jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, the authorization to carry foreign passengers in the outbound segments is granted by foreign consulates. The number of passengers to be carried is determined pursuant to the travel restrictions of each country.
“This second stage of special flights is more efficient and is intended to somewhat restore our operations, as we are carrying foreign passengers back home in the outbound segments. We are able to embark on this task because of the strong commitment of our work teams,” explained Pablo Ceriani, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas.
In the aggregate, 80 special flights have been scheduled by Aerolíneas Argentinas since March 18, when regular international operations were suspended. In these flights, the company has brought around 22,000 Argentine citizens back home.
It is worth mentioning that the 11th flight to Shanghai departs tonight, with the purpose of bringing medical supplies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. All in all, the company has scheduled 17 flights to China.
