ALTA TRAFFIC REPORT, JANUARY 2020

The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced today that Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 27.7 million passengers in January, up 3.5% – or 928,053 additional passengers – from the previous year. Traffic (RPK) increased 0.1% and capacity (ASK) increased 1.2%, bringing the load factor to 79.6%, 0.9 percentage points lower than in 2019. (see table 1) Traffic to/from Latin America & Caribbean Latin America and Caribbean airlines carried 2.6 million passengers to and from Latin America and the Caribbean in January, down 1.3% from the previous year (see table 2). Aerolineas adds two new flights to Cancun and Punta Cana

Aerolíneas Argentinas announced 2 new exceptional flights from Cancun and Punta Cana, scheduled for April 15 and April 16, respectively. Both flights will be operated with Airbus 330–200 aircraft, which implies that a total of 530 seats will be available for Argentine people who are still stranded abroad. It is important to highlight that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship is the authority that defines the lists of passengers based upon the priorities established by health protocols. Bush Airport Wins Gold in Air Cargo World Award

Volaris Reports March 2020 Traffic Results, Load Factor of 82%

Volaris* (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR), the ultra-low-cost airline serving Mexico, the United States and Central America, reported March2020 preliminary traffic results. In March 2020, capacity measured by ASMs (Available Seat Miles) decreased by 5.6% vs the same period of last year, while demand measured by RPMs (Revenue Passenger Miles) decreased 10.3% year over year.  Volaris transported a total of 1.6 million passengers during the month of March, a decrease of 12.8% year over year. Network-wide load factor for March 2020 was 82.3%, a decrease of 4.3 pp versus last year. Viva Aerobus reports monthly passenger figures corresponding to March 2020

Viva Aerobus, Mexico´s ultra-low-cost carrier, reports its monthly passenger figures corresponding to March 2020. The airline registered nearly 850 thousand passengers this month with a load factor of 80.5%. This represented an increase of 1% in the number of customers compared to March 2019 and a decrease in the load factor of 10.4 percentage points. This decrease was caused by the drop in de-mand resulting from the health emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the world and due to the growth in our country. ALTA reiterates its call to the governments to address the economic crisis resulting from COVID-19

The aviation industry moves the world. Not just connecting people, but driving several industries through trade, tourism, employment and connectivity. In Latin America and the Caribbean only, the travel and tourism industry generates 18.9 million direct, indirect and induced jobs and contributes with 9.3% of the region’s GDP (WTTC data). It is a major source of economic and social well-being. The global economic crisis resulting from the COVID-19 is generating that, for the first time since the 2008 crisis, the global GDP is negative, and one million people is losing their jobs daily in the travel and tourism industry worldwide (WTTC data).
