Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) presents preliminary passenger traffic data for the region’s airports for the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023.

Passenger volume growth in 2023 vs 2024 was 5.5%. Preliminary figures compiled by ACI-LAC indicate that the best performing country in percentage terms compared to the same period last year was Uruguay, with growth of 28.6%, followed by Peru (+21.4%) and Chile (+18.9%). Ecuador was the only country to show a slight decrease (-2.8%) in passenger movements in the first quarter of 2024.

Brazil continues to be the leading market in Latin America and the Caribbean with 52 million passengers, a growth of 2.5% over the previous year, followed by Mexico, which showed a growth of 1.3% and a passenger volume of more than 45 million people.

Doctor Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC, commented, “Air transport is fundamental to the economic and social growth of Latin America and the Caribbean, so we celebrate this growth which demonstrates the great potential of our region.”

The ACI-LAC statistic is based on passenger traffic data at the region’s busiest airports, which account for more than 90% of the total traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean.
