While many consumers were homebound throughout the pandemic, Delta worked quietly but diligently to pull the future of travel forward. From investing in its people and accelerating its fleet transformation to building a new onboard entertainment experience, here are some of the ways Delta continues blazing a trail to transform travel into a part of the journey to look forward to.

Building the Next Generation Onboard Experience

By combining industry-leading Wi-Fi, seatback entertainment on nearly all Delta aircraft* and the Delta Portal Platform, customers can expect an unparalleled personalized experience onboard – a new era of onboard entertainment Delta calls the ‘Connected Cabin.’

In the future, the carrier plans to integrate Delta SkyMiles profile information, Delta Studio content and customer flight information for a seamless, fully personalized experience. More details on features coming onboard will be shared in the coming months.

Fleet Modernization

In 2020, Delta and Airbus agreed to add incremental aircraft to Delta’s order book of cutting-edge, safe, reliable and lower-emissions aircraft by converting purchase rights for 25 A321neo aircraft into firm orders, and replenishing Delta’s purchase rights. Delta and Airbus also have agreed to move up two existing A350-900 and one A330-900neo deliveries to occur in the second half of 2022.

Delta also retired 18 widebody Boeing 777s and the MD-88 and MD-90 aircraft – accelerating the airline’s strategy to simplify and modernize its fleet while continuing to operate newer, more cost-efficient aircraft.

Reducing Environmental Impact

In March 2020, Delta became the first carbon neutral-airline on a global basis. While the pandemic created a historic period of financial hardship for the airline, the company remains committed to this plan – which takes immediate action against climate change while pursuing long-term investments to address aviation emissions.

By focusing on carbon reductions and removals, stakeholder engagement and coalition building, Delta is becoming carbon neutral so that its customers will not have to choose between seeing the world and saving it.

Delta is continuing to invest in its by people by working quickly to increase staffing in Reservations and Customer Care, Airport Customer Service and Cargo, Flight Operations and Tech Operations in support of customers’ speedy return to travel.
