The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) expresses its deep concern at the measures announced by the government of the Argentine Republic in Administrative Decision 643/2021 of June 25, 2021, which, among others, limits to 600 places per day the entry of Argentines and residents to the country by air.
The measure, which comes into force untimely, directly and negatively impacts Argentine citizens and residents abroad, making it impossible to return to the country as planned. “At the moment, there is no clarity on how these seats will be distributed and the passenger will end up being the major affected by the lack of predictability, which is the basis for offering a safe, efficient and reliable service”, remarks Jose Ricardo Botelho, Executive Director & CEO at ALTA.
Argentina is already isolated and its connectivity continues to decline, affecting citizens who directly and indirectly depend on the arrival of travelers. By not allowing tourism or direct flights to / from 60 countries, it is the Argentines and residents of the country who suffer the greatest consequences. We reiterate our willingness to continuously study, based on scientific evidence, the most effective measures to avoid contagion and achieve the common goal of protecting the health of the population.
Keeping the country isolated will continue to reduce the availability of jobs and income for the population. We call for dialogue to avoid unilateral and short-term measures that affect the passenger.
