Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s ultra-low-cost carrier, has been announced as Air Transport World’s Value Airline of the Year. Aviation Week Network’s Air Transport World (ATW) recognized Viva Aerobus as a 2021 winner of its 47th annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards. The awards ceremony will take place on October 5th in Boston, Massachusetts.

“We thank ATW for recognizing Viva Aerobus as this year’s Value Airline of the Year. We have done much more beyond keeping down ours costs and fares, taking passengers’ experience to the next level. With Viva Aerobus passengers fly in the youngest Mexican fleet and 2nd youngest in North America; enjoy enhanced flexibility and have access to an all-in-one bus connection between airports and their hometowns”, said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Airbus.

Value Airline of the Year award is given to those airlines that stand out for having a business model that allows them to offer low fares – transforming commercial air transport, making safe, affordable flying accessible to a far wider set of people and keeping the general market competitive – and an added value in terms of service and travel experience.

Viva Aerobus recalls that during 2020 and 2021, to meet passengers’ current priorities and needs, it developed new products and initiatives in benefit of travelers’ economy and convenience. As an example, Zero Fare is a new travel fare for those who do not need to carry checked or hand luggage, thereby receiving a discount in exchange for their right to carry this luggage. It only includes the transport of a personal item, such as a handbag or a backpack. Besides, the airline launched the new payment alternative “TU Aliado”, which allows booking a flight and postponing the payment of up to 60% of the total cost by deferring the settlement of the Airport Departure Fee (TUA), from the time of purchase until flight’s departure.

Regarding flexibility, Viva Aerobus got rid of change fees. Passengers who require changing route, date, or schedule timing on domestic or international flights no longer pay any change fee, only the fare difference, if any. Besides, Viva created Full Refund, a unique flight insurance, at affordable prices, which guarantees 100% cash refund in the event of any unforeseen situation such as illnesses (including COVID-19), accidents, government travel bans, theft, and adverse weather, among many others.

Thanks to this commitment to the best flying experience with low fares, Viva registers an increasing demand. The airline broke its monthly passenger all-time record with more than 1.34 million passengers in May 2021. Besides, Viva continues with its growth strategy having launched 11 new routes so far this year: 6 domestic within Mexico and 5 international.

“We are proud to receive this award at such a challenging environment for the aviation industry at the global level, proving that we have strengthened our mission: Always Safe, Always Reliable and Always Low Prices,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua.
