Miami artist Johnny Robles hopes to bring some inner peace to busy holiday travelers at Miami International Airport with Gloria Bow, his 11-foot-by-12-foot mural painting recently installed at the airport’s Concourse E departures area near Door 13.The artwork’s title is derived from a glory rainbow, a halo of interlocking colors made up of tiny droplets of water reflecting sunlight scattered back towards the viewer. The natural phenomenon can be experienced from tall buildings, a mountain top, or an airplane in flight.
“My intent for this image is to impact the passersby and engage them for a moment of solitude, clarity, or stillness, as it has for me over the years when noticing its beauty outside an airplane window. It’s a reminder to me that nature seeks each one of us, but not all realize it”, said artist Johnny Robles.
Robles’s practice varies in material and process, including drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and installation. His work has been integrated with architecture in recent years, uncovering new meaning through shifts in perception, scale, and imagery. For each project, various techniques are employed that are synchronized with the viewer’s attention to movement and point of view in relation to the work. The artist aims to explore psychological effects with color, materials, and techniques that embody emotive and perceptual associations, such as play, interaction, elation, and control.
Robles, who currently lives and works in Miami, studied at Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy, and later received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work has been featured in several group and solo exhibitions in Miami and around the world. Exhibitions include the Museum of Art & Design, New York City, NY (2010); Hollywood Art & Cultural Center, Hollywood, FL (2013), Spinello Gallery, Miami, FL (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, FL (2015); David Castillo Gallery, Miami Beach, FL (2016); and Galleria Del Paseo, Uruguay (2016). Public and private art mural commissions include Chase Bank and Bank of America collections. Robles recently presented a solo exhibition of his work at KDR 305 in Miami, FL on October 202
