• SFO celebrates the reopening of the Airport’s Video Arts screening room after a twenty-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SFO Museum’s Video Arts program features a rotating exhibition of four short films with new films introduced each month, providing visibility to a range of contemporary artists and filmmakers who are at the leading edge of their craft. From short-form documentaries and narratives, to experimental films and all forms of animation, Video Arts presents the thought-provoking, innovative work of today’s filmmakers.

This month, we’re featuring four filmmakers from around the world whose work directly and indirectly reflects how the pandemic impacts our lives and our interaction with one another. French filmmaker Julie Rohart identifies inspiration found in the isolation of Paris’ lockdown in the winter of 2020. Turkish-born animation director Tuna Bora collaborates with London-based animator Jonathan Djob Nkondo to illustrate the world of a young girl in self-isolation. Los Angeles-based filmmaker Jane Chow from Hong Kong produces a story of familial support amidst economic hardship in Los Angeles Chinatown. And Canadian filmmaker David Findlay crafts an exploration of the critical importance of physical contact in our interpersonal communication. Together, these artists help us understand the world we are navigating, and inspire us with stories of beauty and resilience.

Fly & Explore Video Arts is located pre-security in the International Terminal of the San Francisco International Airport at the rear of the Departures Lobby. The screening room’s hours of operation are 5am to 10pm daily.
