A Message from Justin Erbacci
CEO, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)
As we begin 2022, I wish all of our guests, employees and airport partners a very happy and healthy new year. Together, we accomplished so much during the past year, and there is a lot more to look forward to as we continue the modernization of our airports and strive to provide gold-standard service to our guests.
We achieved many milestones at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY) in 2021 and have much to be proud of as Team LAWA. We celebrated the opening of multiple, stunning new facilities, including the West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal, LAX Economy Parking, the Airport Police Facility, an extension of Terminal 1 and the connection between Terminals 1 & 2. We launched new smart parking technology that allows our guests to reserve parking online for the first time, and added valet service. We helped our guests return to the skies safely, with clean and healthy facilities, on-site rapid COVID-19 testing and offered vaccines and boosters at LAX for our employees and guests.
Thank you to Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Board of Airport Commissioners for your vision and leadership that helped shape 2021 and made the year a great success.
There is even more to be excited about in 2022, starting with welcoming Super Bowl LVI in February, and many other anticipated milestones and achievements.
Later this year, construction of the 2.25-mile elevated Automated People Mover guideway will be complete, and we expect delivery this year of most of the 44 train cars that will serve our guests when the system is completed in 2023. The last structural concrete for what will become the largest rental car facility in the world also will be poured. The new headhouse for Terminals 2 and 3, which provides a centralized hub for ticketing, passenger screening and baggage claim, will open in the spring. And, all LAX parking structures will offer electric vehicle charging and the latest smart parking technology.
Our commitment to our guests in 2022 and beyond is that we will continue to deliver on our promises for a modernized, reimagined airport experience that is healthy, safe, efficient and exceptional. We will do so sustainably and with gold-standard service.
I would like to extend a special thank you to all of our employees and partners who have been critical to our success as they continue to work on-site throughout the pandemic.
I hope that you enjoy reading more about our accomplishments in 2021 below. Thank you for your partnership and support.
