The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), represented by its Executive Director & CEO, José Ricardo Botelho, together with the Secretary General of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC), Jaime Binder, held meetings with the Minister of Transports and Telecommunications of Chile, Mr. Juan Carlos Muñoz Abogabir, and the Undersecretary of Tourism of Chile, Mrs. Verónica Kunze Neubauer.
During these meetings, both organizations, which represent the public and private sectors, agreed to highlight that Chile has great tourism potential and that more than 90% of its population is already fully vaccinated, which generates exceptional health safety conditions.
“After two years of travel restrictions in the region, the phenomenon known as “revenge tourism” is beginning to take hold. People feel a strong need to travel, reconnect with loved ones, and make up for “lost” time. In Chile there are the Easter Island, the Elqui Valley, the Osorno Volcano, the Atacama Desert, among other wonders that cannot be missed”, commented José Ricardo Botelho.
The work based on public-private collaboration that is developed in CLAC and ALTA has the objective of advocating for harmonized regulations that maintain the safety and health of the population and that consider a prompt recovery of the sector, for the benefit of passengers. airlines and the population in the region that benefits directly, indirectly and induced from aviation and tourism.
ALTA and CLAC reiterated their willingness to work collaboratively with each other and with the Chilean authorities to develop commercial aviation activity, as well as provide the tourism authority with studies, data and all the technical knowledge for the implementation of measures that promote the development of aviation and tourism.
