Today, Iberia is opening the Espacio Iberia in the heart of Madrid. A 350 sq m venue where the airline’s customers and the general public can enjoy its latest developments: the new on-board experience and the new uniforms that the airline will debut in just under a fortnight, as well as a VR flight over New York, a showcooking event, and wine and beer tastings.

Visitors to the Espacio Iberia will also be able to acquire iconic Iberia merchandise, such as models of its planes, the handbag designed by Teresa Helbig that its employees will use from 1 June, as well as replicas of historical posters and advertisements.

Espacio Iberia is on Velázquez Street, 37, and is open every day, from 12 pm to 9 pm, Monday to Sunday, including holidays, from today until 30 June.

Experience Business Class Without Taking Off

An airplane’s cabin has been recreated for the Espacio Iberia, with two Business seats, four Premium Economy seats, and four Economy seats, where customers and the general public can enjoy the experience offered by the airline when flying at 30,000 feet, but without having to take off.

At Espacio Iberia, visitors will have the chance to taste the new in-flight meals offered on board while enjoying the comfort of the seats in the Business and Premium Economy sections.

They will enjoy the on-board cuisine, prepared by DO&CO, based on the richness of the Mediterranean diet and with high-quality fresh ingredients and local seasonal  products.

Starting today at the Espacio Iberia, and from 1 June on all the airline’s routes, new snacks, main dishes, and desserts will be offered to passengers, and the service will adopt a new pace. Crockery and table linen are also new, with very original and “Spanish” touches, such as the Las Meninas salt and pepper shakers.

And if they are “travelling” in Economy, Espacio Iberia visitors can also try out the pre-order service, offered by Iberia for its short- and medium-haul flights, which allows passengers to choose their in-flight meals in advance and also contribute to reducing food waste.

The visitors’ experience on board is rounded off with a special coffee offered by Lavazza.

Showcooking and Wine and Beer Tastings

Iberia offers an extensive wine list on board its flights, selected by its Club del Vino from the best Spanish wine regions. Visitors to the Espacio Iberia will not only have the chance to try these wines, but there are also several tastings scheduled each week, during which a sommelier from the Club del Vino will delve into the characteristics of each of the wines.

There will also be beer tastings –led by a Mahou beer sommelier–, which can be booked in advance, online and at the Espacio Iberia lobby, as capacity limited.

But the fun doesn’t end here. Iberia’s catering provider, DO&CO, will offer a showcooking event three times a week. It will take place at the venue on Velázquez Strret and will teach attendees about what it is like to prepare meals on board an airplane, as well as describing the flavours, textures, and colours of the different foods, with a beer tasting at the end of the show pairing by Mahou.

Try on the new and historical Uniforms

Another of the attractions of the Espacio Iberia is the uniforms. The event includes a display of all the outfits worn by Iberia employees throughout history, from the first, which had a military air, to the ones designed by Pedro Rodríguez, and the iconic Elio Berhanyer and Pertegaz collections, that of Alfredo Caral, the current uniform by Adolfo Domínguez, and the new one, by Teresa Helbig, which is to be debuted on 1 June-. Visitors to Espacio Iberia will be able to try them all on and be photographed with a fun Glam Cam 360º; and Iberia will send each participant a gift slow motion video.

Virtual Reality

Innovation and digitisation are two of Iberia’s hallmarks. With the aim of improving the travel experience, making it more sustainable and more personalised. From June 1st, the airline will debut with a new digital menu, available on Iberia.com, where customers will be able to check their on board menu before boarding the flight.

Another of the great innovations in June will be the free messaging product throughout the flight for Iberia Plus customers and those traveling in the Business cabin. This new service will allow sending and receiving messages through WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, and Facebook Messenger and send emails without attachments.

The on-board entertainment will also have a more modern and user-friendly layout and much more content: more than 160 movies with the latest Hollywood releases, Spanish cinema and options for the little ones, more than 480 series, documentaries, and master classes, and more than 230 options between playlists, CDs and podcasts.

In addition to presenting a demo with the latest news, Iberia offers a VR experience every weekend in its space on Velázquez Street, which will allow visitors to fly over the Big Apple, enjoying a superhero’s view of the city.

The Espacio Iberia Store

The Espacio Iberia also has a small store selling Iberia merchandise, such as models of its A330 and A350 planes, historical posters and postcards, Las Meninas salt and pepper shakers, and a twist on the red handbag that the employees will wear from 1 June, designed by Teresa Helbig, among other products, with part of the founds going to the Gasol Foundation.

Espacio Iberia will also host a small PhotoEspaña exhibition by photographer María Platero, as part of Iberia’s initiative to support Spanish art and culture, Talento a Bordo.

Espacio Iberia is located on Velázquez Street, 37. Open from today until 30 June, from 12pm to 9pm Monday to Sunday, including holidays.
