- ALTA and Ambipar partner to offset emissions resulting from the ALTA conference in Buenos Aires
The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) established a partnership with Ambipar, a Brazilian multinational company dedicated to environmental management. Today, the company joins as an affiliate member of the association to offset the emissions from the operation of the eighteenth edition of the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum. This event took place from October 16 to 18 in Buenos Aires. It brought together more than 500 CEOs, senior executives, and decision-makers from the commercial aviation industry in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The realization of the conference, fully offset through Ambipar, resulted in 25 thousand kilograms of CO2, an estimate made through Ambify technology based on the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program and audited by SGS.
“I am pleased to announce the partnership with Ambipar and its arrival at ALTA to start working together to support our members in achieving their own environmental goals. ALTA focuses on listening to its members and effectively supporting them in their strategies to achieve the industry’s commitment to zero net emissions by 2050. We are excited to offset emissions from an ALTA event for the first time on this particular occasion. It is an action in the path towards sustainability that we started in 2021 with the environmental resolution of our member airlines that guides the initiatives for even more environmentally responsible aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean,” comments José Ricardo Botelho, executive director and CEO of ALTA.
For Daniela Pedroza, general director of Ambipar VG, talking about sustainability is a fundamental guideline for companies. “It is very significant to be part of a meeting where large and important organizations in the sector meet to discuss sustainability and ESG practices and how this agenda has been strengthened and brought about important transformations so far. It is important to be here and contribute even more to the evolution of this priority guideline for the world”.
On Ambipar’s arrival as a member of ALTA, João Valente Filho, Ambipar’s digital assets director, says: “This is an important partnership for Ambipar. When the business community joins together, initiatives are strengthened. Thus we contribute to sustainable development and, consequently, to the preservation of our planet. That is the path we want to follow with our partners and companies worldwide.”
“Having an ESG (environmental, social, and governance management) strategy has big returns for the sustainability of the planet and the well-being of our societies, but also a direct impact on global economies, job creation, and value generation for the population. A Boston Consulting Group study shows that ESG practices lead to 3% to 19% better company results. Morgan Stanley indicates that around 80% of investors evaluate the behavior of companies concerning socio-environmental responsibility and governance to make investments”, adds Botelho.
