The International Aviation Womens Association (IAWA), a worldwide organization for women who hold leadership positions across the entire spectrum of the aviation and aerospace industry, celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) today. IWD honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
This year’s IWD theme – “Embrace Equity” – marks a call to action to embrace diversity and inclusion by aiming to create a global discussion on why “equal opportunities are no longer enough.” By focusing on equitable opportunities instead, we recognize each person’s unique circumstances in relation to creating equal outcomes.
IAWA Board Members Karen Blanks Ellis and Sheila Remes share their thoughts on embracing equity below.
- Karen Blanks Ellis, Managing Director, Strategic Environmental Management & Sustainability, FedEx Express and IAWA VP, Association Development: “Gender equity is a precondition to an organization that leverages the rich diverse contributions of its entire team member population…unburdened by restrictions or artificial barriers…where no one is marginalized. Then, all can thrive, and organizations can reach their full potential. IAWA continues to provide critical aid in moving towards this goal in aviation.”
- Sheila Remes, Vice President Environmental Sustainability, The Boeing Company and IAWA VP, Stakeholder Experience:
“Embracing equity means…
- Recognizing and rewarding potential for women, not just performance
- Challenging and supporting women to create a pipeline of female leaders
- Men AND women advocating and supporting women in leadership”
IAWA encourages you to share your #EmbraceEquity images, videos, resources, presentations, and articles across social media using #IWD2023 #EmbraceEquity to encourage others to help create an inclusive world.
