Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), the international association of airports, congratulates the government of the Dominican Republic for the forthcoming signing of the Open Skies Agreement with the United States.

Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director Geneal of ACI-LAC, pointed out in this regard that “international experience shows that open skies agreements stimulate the growth of air traffic, both passenger and air cargo between countries, by allowing free competition in the market of air transport. The possibility that any Dominican or North American airline can fly between any airport in those countries without any type of restriction regarding the number of frequencies and seats offered will be positive for the Dominican Republic.”

We encourage and support the government of the Dominican Republic to negotiate similar treaties with other countries and, in particular, the country’s main markets: the Caribbean, Canada, Latin America and European countries, since this open skies policy will positively affect the society and the national economy. Therefore, ACI-LAC remains at the entire disposal of the government and the Dominican authorities.
