Airports Council International (ACI) World, as one of the contributing organizations, today welcomes the launch of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Net Zero Roadmaps and calls for continued collaboration of aviation stakeholders in building a sustainable aviation industry.
ACI and airports have been leaders in the decarbonization transformation, being the first to commit to a long-term environmental goal of net zero carbon emissions at airports by 2050, made on 8 June 2021. This was followed by the cross-industry commitment in October 2021 and that by the ICAO States in October 2022.
The IATA Net Zero Roadmaps highlight the type of collaboration and actions needed to achieve both the aviation industries’ and governments’ goal of net zero carbon emission by 2050.
ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira said: “We congratulate IATA on the launch of the Net Zero Roadmaps and welcome their ongoing collaboration in building a sustainable aviation sector. Airports have been leaders in the decarbonization transformation and on the front line to provide solutions. The whole aviation ecosystem needs to work together with common purpose, and we urge States, regulators, fuel producers, and the financial sector to all play their part too. The onus is on all of us so that aviation can continue to play an important role in the economic and social well-being of communities worldwide.”
