The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) in Colombia signed a MOU aimed at jointly fostering and promoting training and professionalization in the aviation industry in Latin America and Caribbean.
Under this agreement, UPB joins the 12 educational partners who currently make part of the association and provide educational services of excellence through ALTA’s Educational Hub.
“We are extremely pleased by the signing of this collaboration agreement with one of the most prestigious universities in Colombia, which has campuses in five cities and in various regions in the country, over 23,000 students and 294 academic programs. Together we will further strengthen the offer available at ALTA’s Educational Hub so that more interested students and professionals in the region will be able to begin and continue their capacitation, strengthening their expertise for the development of a successful career in aviation,” says Jose Ricardo Botelho, ALTA’s Executive Director & CEO.
Priest Diego Marulanda, Rector General of Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, notes that “thanks to this type of agreement we add capabilities, talents and academic and research strengths to jointly build solutions for the aviation sector in Latin America and Caribbean region.”
According to this agreement, ALTA members will have access to discounts on a wide variety of courses taught by the UPB School of Aeronautical Engineering, which address topics of relevance to the industry such as: SMS implementation strategies and audits; management, analysis and selection of aeronautical fleets; aeronautical meteorology, to name a few.
ALTA’s commitment to the training of human talent in the region is crucial. On the one hand, it is important to highlight that education is a powerful pillar for socioeconomic development. Moreover, the aviation industry has been growing steadily and will need to increase the number of professionals to make this growth possible. Having trained and constantly updated personnel is key to the development of a safe, efficient and sustainable industry that creates opportunities for more people and more places in our region.
