Last year, 61.7 million travellers flew to, from or via Schiphol. That is an increase of 18% compared to 2022 (52.5 million) and 14% less than in 2019 (71.7 million). There were 441.963 air transport movements to and from Schiphol in calendar year 2023.
Of the almost 61.7 million travellers in 2023, 39.1 million flew directly to or from Schiphol. 36% of travellers had a connecting flight at Schiphol. There were more than 11 million unique transfer passengers. In accordance with the international counting method, these travellers were counted twice; once as an arriving traveller and once as a departing traveller.
Last year, there were 441,963 air transport movements to and from the airport. That is an increase of 11% compared to 2022 (397,646 aircraft movements) and 11% less than in 2019 (496,826 aircraft movements). There were 425,994 passenger flights and 15.969 cargo flights.
Destinations in 2023
Schiphol directly connected the Netherlands to 305 destinations, 126 of them intercontinental. There were 7 new destinations, including Alanya and additional connections to Mexico City and Beijing. 16 destinations were no longer flown to, including airports in Russia and Ukraine.
43 million travellers departed to or arrived from a destination in Europe, 18 million to or from an intercontinental destination. Great Britain was the most popular destination, followed by Spain and the United States.
Cargo in 2023
Schiphol handled 1.37 million tonnes of cargo, a decrease of 4.8% compared to 2022 (1.44 million tonnes). There were 15,969 cargo only flights. That is 12.9% less than in 2022 (18,340 cargo flights).
