ACI-LAC (Airports Council International – Latin America and Caribbean) is thrilled to announce the addition of PAX Aeroportos from Brazil as its newest airport member. This marks a significant milestone, as Brazil remains one of the largest and most dynamic markets in the LAC region.

Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC, welcomed the new member and said “it is an honor to welcome PAX Aeroportos to the ACI-LAC family. Their incorporation strengthens our network and underscores our commitment to airport management in Brazil and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The presence of PAX Aeroportos demonstrates, once again, the importance of collaboration and the sharing of best practices to continue the development of aviation throughout the region.”

PAX Aeroportos has been the airport operator since 2023, responsible for the administration and infrastructure of the airports of Jacarepaguá, in Rio de Janeiro, and Campo de Marte, in São Paulo. Dedicated to business aviation, the two airports are located in central areas of the two main capitals of Brazil. They are mainly used for executive flights, but Jacarepaguá is also connected to three important airports with regular Azul Conecta flights: Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo; Viracopos, in Campinas; and Confins, in Belo Horizonte.

Furthermore, Jacarepaguá concentrates a significant volume of large helicopter flights to oil rigs located in the Santos Basin. There are around a thousand offshore flights per month. Jacarepaguá has a 900×30 meters runway, 44 hangars, and three fuel farms.

Campo de Marte is the oldest airport in São Paulo, with 23 hangars, 4 fuel farms, and a 1,600×45 meters runway. In 2023, Campo de Marte recorded 59,297 movements and Jacarepaguá, 81,517. Together, the two airports correspond to the fourth largest airport in Brazil in terms of aircraft movement.

PAX is investing in modernizing the infrastructure of Jacarepaguá and Campo de Marte. The investment plan includes works to enable the two airports to operate with instruments up to category 2B. Additionally, PAX plans to implement the necessary infrastructure to serve the eVTOL market. Electric vehicles will be part of the future of urban mobility and PAX is now preparing to lead this operation.

Rogério Prado, CEO of PAX Aeroportos, stated “counting on ACI’s expertise is extremely good news for our administration of the airports of Campo de Marte and Jacarepaguá. It is a key step forward. From now on we will be a part of this high-level and relevant technical knowledge base for our sector. It allows airport operators to share experiences and good practices.”
