The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the ninth month of 2024 with 34,832,652 passengers, 7% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 292,139 aircraft movements, 5.8% more than in 2023; and transported 120,781 tonnes of cargo, 14.3% more than last year.

In cumulative terms up to September 2024, 282,720,476 passengers passed through Aena airports (8.9% more than in 2023); 2,440,496 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.3%); and 1,028,689 tonnes of cargo were transported, 18.9% more than in the same period of 2023.

Aena airports in Spain

The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed the ninth month of 2024 with 29,647,989 passengers, 7.6% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 240,025 aircraft movements, 6.6% more than in 2023; and they transported 108,722 tonnes of cargo, up 14.2% on last year.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in September with 5,851,274, growth of 8.6% compared with the same month last year.

It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,061,870 (+10.3% compared with 2023); Palma de Mallorca, with 4,074,740 (+5.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,502,377 (+10.4%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,801,340 (+15.3%); Ibiza, with 1,219,754 (-0.2%); Gran Canaria, with 1,116,260 (+6.6%) and Valencia, with 1,058,191 passengers, an increase of 11.5% on September 2023.

In addition, a record number of passengers was recorded in a month of September in the Aena network as a whole and in 17 airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Valencia, Tenerife Sur, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Sevilla, Menorca, Bilbao, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, La Palma, Melilla, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, and La Gomera.

In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in September was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 36,457 (+7.5% compared with 2023), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 31,683 flights (+11.3%); Palma de Mallorca, with 28,191 (+6.2%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 16,891 (+6.6%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 11,171 (+16.1%); Gran Canaria, with 10,581 (+5,8%); and Ibiza, with 10,007 landings and take-offs (-0.8%).

In the ninth month of 2024, in addition to the network as a whole, a record number of operations in a month of September was recorded at fifteen airports: Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Sevilla, Gran Canaria, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Tenerife Sur, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Menorca, Fuerteventura, Son Bonet, Melilla, Logroño, El Hierro and La Gomera.

In terms of freight traffic, September 2024 was the month with the highest total freight traffic to date in the Aena network as a whole. By airport, the one with the highest cargo volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 65,082 tonnes, 19.4% more than in the same month of 2023. This was also the month of September with the most commercial freight traffic on record. It was followed by Zaragoza, with 16,802 tonnes (+17.3%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, which recorded 14,714 tonnes (+9%); and Vitoria, with 5,699 tonnes (-7.3%).

Up to September 2024, 237,815,950 passengers passed through Aena airports (9.8% more than in 2023); 1,977,235 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.8%); and 924,596 tonnes of cargo were transported, 19.1% more than in the same period of 2023.

Aena Brasil Airports

The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,617,036 passengers in September, 4.4% more than in the same month of 2023. 40,046 aircraft movements were carried out, an increase of 2.4% compared with the same month in 2023, and 9,553 tonnes of freight were transported, up 15% compared with the same month last year.

The ANB* group of six airports closed the month of September with 1,288,358 passengers (+8.4%). Recife Airport reached 778,602 passengers (+6.6%). There were 13,025 flights (+7.5%), of which Recife managed 7,616 (+5.6%). And 4,928 tonnes of freight were moved (+5%), of which 4,055 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+6%).

The BOAB** group of eleven airports recorded 2,328,678 passengers in September (+2.3% over the same month in 2023). Among them, Congonhas Airport *** stands out with 1,953,488 travellers (+2%). A total of 27,021 flights were handled (+0.1%), of which 19,245 (-1.5%) were at São Paulo airport. And 4,626 tonnes of freight were transported (+28%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 3,706 tonnes were handled, 28.6% more than in the same month of the previous year.

Between January and September 2024, 31,848,678 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+5.4%); 362,295 aircraft movements were recorded (+6%); and 81,526 tonnes of freight were transported, 15.7% more than in the same period of 2023.

London Luton Airport

During the month of September, 1,567,627 passengers passed through London Luton Airport’s London facilities, 1.9% more than in the same month in 2023. 12,068 aircraft movements were carried out (+2.6%) and 2,507 tonnes of freight were transported, 17.2% more than in 2023.

In the first nine months of 2024, 13,055,848 passengers were recorded (+2.6%), 100,966 aircraft movements were handled (+3.1%) and 22,567 tonnes of freight were transported (+21.7%).

** BOAB – Bloco dos Onze Aeroporto do Brasil -, which manages the airports of Congonhas-SP, Campo Grande-MS, Corumbá-MS, Ponta Porã-MS, Santarém-PA, Marabá-PA, Carajás-PA, Altamira-PA, Uberlândia-MG, Montes Claros-MG and Uberaba-MG, recorded 26,377,069 passengers in 2023.
