The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the tenth month of 2024 with 33,587,444 passengers, 6.1% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 283,592 aircraft movements, 4.9% more than in 2023; and transported 137,308 tonnes of freight, 22.7% more than last year.In cumulative terms up to October 2024, 316,084,814 passengers passed through Aena Group airports (8.6% more than in 2023); 2,724,088 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.1%); and 1,166,645 tonnes of freight were transported, 19.3% more than in the same period of 2023.

Aena airports in Spain

The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed October with 28,251,591 passengers, 6.1% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 231,529 aircraft movements, 5.5% more than in 2023; and they transported 124,166 tonnes of freight, up 22.5% on last year.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in October with 5,676,510, growth of 5.4% compared with the same month last year.

It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,964,341 (+8.2% compared with 2023); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,490,279 (+6.2%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,429,370 (+9.6%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,797,457 (+13.3%); Gran Canaria, with 1,300,302 (+6.3%); Tenerife Sur, with 1,152,167 (+8.9%); and Valencia, with 1,011,445 passengers, an increase of 4.5% on October 2023.

In addition, a record number of passengers was recorded in a month of October at 17 airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Tenerife Sur, Valencia, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Menorca, Bilbao, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Melilla, El Hierro, Son Bonet and Huesca-Pirineos.

In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in October was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 35,393 (+2.4% compared with 2023), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 31,517 flights (+8.4%); Palma de Mallorca, with 25,409 (+4.9%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 16,764 (+7.5%); Gran Canaria, with 11,987 (+5.2%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 11,243 landings and take-offs (+13.1%).

In the tenth month of 2024, a record number of operations in a month of October was also recorded at 15 infrastructures: Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa Del Sol, Gran Canaria, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Tenerife Sur, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén, Son Bonet, Melilla, Logroño and at Ceuta Heliport.

In terms of freight traffic, October 2024 was the month with the highest total freight traffic to date in the Aena network in Spain. The airport with the highest freight volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 72,622 tonnes, 20.1% more than in the same month of 2023. This was the month of October with the highest total commercial freight traffic in the history of the Madrid infrastructure, as was the case at Zaragoza Airport with 21,000 tonnes (+52.7%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with 16,996 tonnes (+17.7%) and Vitoria, with 6,339 tonnes (+2.3%).

Up to October 2024, 266,067,541 passengers have passed through Aena airports in Spain (9.4% more than in 2023); 2,208,764 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.6%); and 1,048,762 tonnes of freight were transported, 19.5% more than in the same period of 2023.

Aena Brasil Airports

The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,854,015 passengers in October, 6% more than in the same month of 2023. 40,387 aircraft movements were carried out, an increase of 2.3% compared with the same month in 2023, and 10,271 tonnes of freight were transported, up 21.8% compared with the same month last year.

The group of six ANB airports(1) closed the month of October with 1,408,814 passengers (+10.1%). Recife Airport reached 855,412 passengers (+8.8%). There were 12,970 flights (+2.3%), of which Recife managed 7,469 (+2.4%). And 5,350 tonnes of freight were moved (+20.6%), of which 4,413 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+25.7%).

The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,445,201 passengers in October (+3.8% over the same month of 2023). Among them, Congonhas Airport(3) stands out with 2,055,466 passengers (+4%). A total of 27,417 flights were handled (+2.2%), of which 20,003 (+1.9%) were at São Paulo airport. And 4,921 tonnes of freight were transported (+23.2%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 4,040 tonnes were handled, 21.7% more than in the same month of the previous year.

Between January and October 2024, 35,702,693 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+5.5%); 402,682 aircraft movements were recorded (+5.6%); and 91,797 tonnes of freight were transported, 16.3% more than in the same period of 2023.

London Luton Airport

During the month of October, 1,481,838 passengers(4) passed through London Luton Airport’s London facilities, 4.6% more than in the same month in 2023. 11,676 aircraft movements were carried out (+2.3%) and 2,872 tonnes of freight(5) were transported, 33.7% more than in 2023.

In the first ten months of 2024, 14,314,580 passengers(4) were recorded (+2.9%), 112,642 aircraft movements were handled (+3.1%) and 26,086 tonnes of freight(5) were transported (+22.4%).
