The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the eleventh month of 2024 with 26,433,304 passengers, 8.7% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 240,282 aircraft movements, 9.2% more than in 2023; and transported 130,424 tonnes of freight, 14.1% more than last year.
In cumulative terms up to November 2024, 342,518,118 passengers passed through Aena Group airports (8.6% more than in 2023); 2,964,370 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.2%); and 1,297,068 tonnes of freight were transported, 18.8% more than in the same period of 2023.
Aena airports in Spain
The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed November with 21,560,768 passengers, 9.2% more than in the same month of 2023; they handled 193,247 aircraft movements, 11.1% more than in 2023; and they transported 120,427 tonnes of freight, up 17.6% on last year.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in November with 5,287,809, growth of 9.2% compared with the same month last year. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,048,233 (+5.7% compared with 2023); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,612,653 (+9.4%); Gran Canaria, with 1,426,180 (+13.1%); Tenerife Sur, with 1,291,881 (+9.7%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,279,116 (+19.6%) and Palma de Mallorca, with 1,199,920 passengers, which is 9.3% more than in November 2023.
In addition, a record number of passengers was recorded in a month of November in the Aena network as a whole and in 21 airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Tenerife Sur, Valencia, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Menorca, Bilbao, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Ibiza, Santiago-Rosalía de Castro, Asturias, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Son Bonet.
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in Noviembre was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 34,177 (+6.8% compared with 2023), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 26,036 flights (+3.4%); Gran Canaria, with 13,156 (+11.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 12,068 (+9.7%); Palma de Mallorca, with 10,708 (+8.5%); Tenerife Sur, with 8,668 (+9.1%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 8,566 landings and take-offs (+23%).
In the eleventh month of 2024, a record number of operations for a month of November was recorded for Aena overall and at 18 infrastructures: Gran Canaria, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Sevilla, Sabadell, Jerez, Ibiza, La Palma, Burgos, Córdoba, Logroño, El Hierro and at Región de Murcia International Airport. In addition, the airports of Tenerife Sur and Fuerteventura also recorded the busiest month of operations in their history.
In terms of freight traffic, the eleventh month of 2024 was the month of November with the highest total freight traffic to date in the Aena network in Spain. The airport with the highest freight volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 71,438 tonnes, 16.8% more than in the same month of 2023. This was the month of November with the highest total commercial freight traffic in the history of the Madrid infrastructure, as was the case at Zaragoza Airport, with 21,091 tonnes (+50.6%), which in turn recorded an all-time freight record. It was followed by the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which recorded 15,157 tonnes (+9.5%) and Vitoria, with 5,838 tonnes (-9%).
Up to the eleventh month of 2024, 287,628,309 passengers have passed through Aena airports in Spain (9.4% more than in 2023); 2,402,011 aircraft movements were recorded (+7.8%); and 1,169,188 tonnes of freight were transported, 19.3% more than in the same period of 2023.
Aena Brasil Airports
The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,734,647 passengers in November, 6.3% more than in the same month of 2023. 37,901 aircraft movements were carried out, an increase of 2.2% compared with the same month in 2023, and 7,484 tonnes of freight were transported, down 19.9% compared with the same month last year.
The group of six ANB airports(1) closed the month of November with 1,332,056 passengers (+9.7%). Recife Airport reached 784,173 passengers (+4.8%). There were 12,273 flights (+1.1%), of which Recife managed 6,945 (-2.3%). And 4,983 tonnes of freight were moved (+3.1%), of which 4,013 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+2.3%).
The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,402,591 passengers in November (+4.6% over the same month of 2023). Among them, Congonhas Airport(3) stands out with 2,041,025 passengers (+5.1%). A total of 25,628 flights were handled (+2.7%), of which 19,259 (+3.4%) were at São Paulo airport. And 2,501 tonnes of freight were transported (-44.6%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 2,021 tonnes were handled, 46.5% less than in the same month of the previous year.
Between January and November 2024, 39,437,340 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+5.5%); 440,583 aircraft movements were recorded (+5.3%); and 99,281 tonnes of freight were transported, 12.5% more than in the same period of 2023.
London Luton Airport
During the month of November, 1,137,889 passengers(4) passed through London Luton Airport’s London facilities, 6.3% more than in the same month in 2023. 9,134 aircraft movements were carried out (+2.2%) and 2,513 tonnes of freight(5) were transported, 3% less than in 2023.
Up to the eleventh month of 2024, 15,452,469 passengers(4) were recorded (+3.2%), 121,776 aircraft movements were handled (+3%) and 28,599 tonnes of freight(5) were transported (+19.7%).
