- Featuring cultural elements of ‘La Isla Del Encanto’, the special aircraft livery will debut this summer
JetBlue, Puerto Rico’s largest airline, proudly announces the chosen design for its forthcoming special aircraft livery, created to honor the island’s rich culture and showcase local artistic talent. Following an exciting public voting period, the design created by Juan Gutierrez, better known as The Stencil Network, received the most votes and has been selected to take flight on a JetBlue Airbus A320. This bold new symbol of Puerto Rican pride will take to the skies later this summer.
The initiative, launched last month, invited customers and fans to vote for their favorite among three stunning livery designs created by talented Puerto Rican artists Elizabeth Barreto, Juan Gutiérrez, and Natalia Nicole. Each design uniquely reflected Puerto Rico’s beauty and culture with flair and style.
“We are excited to see Puerto Rico’s culture take center stage once again on a JetBlue aircraft, celebrating Boricua pride from new heights,” said Jayne O’Brien, head of marketing and customer support, JetBlue. “With Puerto Rico being an integral part of JetBlue’s history and network for over 20 years, we’re proud to continue strengthening our ties with the local community and bringing The Stencil Network’s vision to life through this special livery. We are incredibly grateful to all three talented artists for their creativity and hard work in crafting such inspiring designs. Their artistic contributions have made this initiative truly special, and we celebrate each of their unique visions.”
The Stencil Network, renowned for his mastery of stencil techniques, created the chosen design, showcasing iconic symbols of Puerto Rican identity. From the proud jíbaro figure on the tail to the island’s vibrant fruits and flora, the artwork embodies the spirit of Puerto Rico. Additionally, with the phrase “Yo Soy Boricua” on the aircraft’s belly, this livery serves as a powerful declaration of Puerto Rican pride from all angles. Every takeoff and landing will become a moment of celebration for the island and its people, many of whom are JetBlue crewmembers.
“For me it is a great honor to have been chosen to capture this vision of Puerto Rico,” said Juan Gutierrez. “My design is inspired by the energy of our archipelago and the vibrant identity that sets us apart. I worked with the idea of how colors, flavors, and music act as a bridge to memory, carrying us back to the spaces and moments we hold dear. I wanted to portray the nobility of the jíbaro accompanied by his harvest, not only for its visual and historical iconicity, but as an aspirational symbol of the values that guide and represent us as a people in times of both joy and adversity. I hope that wherever this plane flies, Puerto Ricans feel seen and connected to this land that we love so much and that, no matter where they are, they feel Puerto Rico closer.”
As an airline committed to bringing humanity back to air travel, JetBlue recognizes the meaningful stories behind each livery design. This marks JetBlue’s second dedicated aircraft livery celebrating Puerto Rico, following the introduction of Bluericua in 2018. The announcement is part of a broader initiative, with this being one of two special liveries selected by public vote to honor and celebrate key JetBlue markets in the Caribbean. More details on the other special livery will be shared once ready, as JetBlue prepares to commemorate this milestone with its customers and the local community.
