ALTA NEWS - Message from the CEO | Peter Cerdá
I am thrilled to begin my role today as CEO of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), a position I take on alongside my current responsibilities as Regional Vice President for the Americas at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). My focus is on addressing the needs of ALTA’s members—including airlines responsible for more than 80% of the region’s air traffic—and promoting a more integrated, efficient, and sustainable aviation ecosystem.

Aviation is key to the social and economic prosperity of our region. In 2023, air transport generated 8.3 million jobs and contributed 240 billion dollars to Latin America and the Caribbean’s GDP. ALTA plays a fundamental role in making air travel more accessible to a larger number of people, connecting communities, boosting tourism and trade, and driving job creation across our countries.

The challenges ahead are significant, which is why ALTA’s path forward will be guided by collaboration and innovation—working hand in hand and engaging in open and transparent dialogue with governments and industry partners. Our goal is clear: to modernize regulatory frameworks, enhance competitiveness, and improve infrastructure to meet future demands. Sustainability will be our foundation, driving progress in harmony with the environment and aligned with the realities of our region.

I reaffirm my commitment to the aviation community of Latin America and the Caribbean—to foster an industry that connects destinations, creates opportunities, and protects our planet. I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Executive Committee, and with a dedicated and talented team by my side, I am committed to leading this new chapter of ALTA with passion and vision. Together, we will reach new heights, creating a more prosperous and connected future for air transport in Latin America and the Caribbean.
