  • The airline will offer up to 11 weekly flights, representing approximately 16,190 more seats than last year.

During the upcoming 2025/26 winter season, Iberia will increase service between Madrid and San Juan to 11 weekly frequencies. This increase marks a new phase in the airline’s operations in Puerto Rico, as it is the first time this number of frequencies has been reached on the international route.

The increase, of approximately 16,190 seats between October 2025 and March 2026, adds $3.2 million to Iberia’s impact on the local economy, which will total approximately $32 million during fiscal 2026.

“We are very excited to announce that, for the second consecutive year, we are increasing our capacity between Puerto Rico and Europe. Last year, we already reached the goal of having a daily flight between San Juan and Madrid, and this new increase highlights our strong commitment to this market, undoubtedly one of the best performing across our entire Latin American and Caribbean network,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Director of Sales, Customers, Network Development and Alliances.

“We are very proud of the increase in flights between Madrid and San Juan, and the expansion of Iberia’s operations in Puerto Rico. The negotiations that the Tourism Company has been conducting on behalf of the Government of Puerto Rico with this prestigious airline allow the island to connect with important cities in Europe, which results in significant benefits for both the tourism industry and strengthens and expands trade relations with foreign markets,” said Robles Cancel. Iberia’s decision is another example of the efforts of Governor Jenniffer González’s administration to promote the development of the tourism industry and air access,” he added.

The new flight schedule, effective October 28 of this year, will offer passengers greater flexibility in planning their vacations and business trips to the island. The new A321XLR aircraft, with capacity for 182 passengers, will offer a daily flight seven days a week, while the A330-200, with capacity for 288 passengers, will be available four times a week.

Furthermore, during the International Tourism Fair held in Madrid last January, the Government of Puerto Rico, the Tourism Company, and Ibera signed a new agreement to promote Puerto Rico as a tourist destination in Europe. This, along with this announcement of increased flights, will attract a greater number of visitors looking to enjoy an exceptional vacation in the Caribbean.
