  • Bogotá leads in passengers, cargo, and movements, while the region consolidates growth

Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) presents the 2024 ranking of the best-performing airports in the region, based on passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and air cargo.

The 2024 rankings reflect the diversity and dynamism of a region where air transport is key to its socioeconomic progress and airports play an increasingly important role as drivers of development.

BOGOTÁ: The New Leader in the Region

For the first time, El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia, has been crowned #1 in Latin America and the Caribbean in all three main categories:

  • Passengers: 45.8 million (+16%)
  • Aircraft movements: 360,044 (+13.4%)
  • Air cargo: 809,021 tons (+5.1%)

In 2024, El Dorado experienced spectacular growth in both passenger traffic and air operations (16% and 13% respectively), while maintaining its leadership as the most important cargo hub on the continent.

To note is the very significant growth in passenger traffic in Lima (+15.2%) and Santiago (+12.8%).

Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU), which serves Mexico City, appears for the first time in the rankings of the continent’s main airports, doubling its cargo volume in the last year and positioning itself as a new logistics hub in the region.

Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport experienced significant growth in air cargo and holds a solid second place on the continent.

Regarding aircraft movement, Brazil consolidates its position with two airports in the top five, while Mexico maintains its position with three airports among the busiest.

“The 2024 data reflects more than just numbers: it tells a story of dynamism, recovery, effort, and strategic vision. The airports of Latin America and the Caribbean are committed to sustainable growth and are devoted to strong commitment to regional and global connectivity.” – Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.
