The Regional Airline Association (RAA) released the statement below following Captain Jeffrey Anderson’s nomination to serve as ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO):

“The United States must remain a global leader in aviation safety, and it is essential to have an ICAO Ambassador in place. RAA applauds the nomination of Captain Jeffrey C. Anderson as the U.S. ambassador to the ICAO. Captain Anderson is a U.S. Navy Veteran who brings over three decades of aviation experience.

The United States has not had an ambassador to the ICAO since Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger stepped down in June 2022, after completing just six months of his three-year term. Captain Anderson’s military service and rich experience as a pilot and negotiator will ensure that he has the background and technical acumen necessary to succeed and help restore the U.S. aviation safety leadership role at this important international aviation body.

Captain Anderson brings a deep understanding of airline operations, safety, and policy. His broad perspective—shaped by operational experience, international collaboration, and Capitol Hill advocacy on important issues, including ATC modernization and a data-based decision on pilot retirement age, positions him well to represent U.S. interests on the world aviation stage. His previous involvement with global aviation organizations, including ICAO, IATA, and IFALPA, further reflects the breadth of his experience and his qualifications to take on this role.

RAA urges the U.S. Senate to swiftly hold a hearing and confirm Captain Anderson as ambassador to ICAO.”
