Grupo Iberia (Iberia, Iberia Express, and Air Nostrum) wrapped up the summer holiday season with intense operational activity. Between June 27 and August 31, the group operated a total of 34,259 flights — equivalent to more than 6 million seats offered — reinforcing its role as one of the leading players in national and international air connectivity in Spain.
Of these flights, 4,560 were long-haul, while over 29,500 focused on short- and medium-haul routes. Madrid Airport was the main departure point, with nearly 17,191 flights scheduled from the capital.
“This summer we reached historic figures in our operations, reflecting Iberia’s strong commitment to enhancing air connectivity and customer experience, while always ensuring maximum efficiency and safety on every flight. This achievement would not have been possible without the tireless effort, professionalism, and dedication of everyone at Iberia, to whom I extend my deepest gratitude for their work during these months of peak activity”, said Ramiro Sequeira, Iberia’s Chief Operating Officer.
A Record-Breaking Season for Connectivity
This operational milestone coincides with a summer season in which Iberia offered a record number of seats.
In Latin America, the Spanish airline reached a new milestone, surpassing even last year’s figures, with 3.2 million seats offered between the two regions — a 4% increase compared to 2024. This translates into more than 300 weekly flights. In the United States, Iberia operated 140 weekly flights, 14% more than the previous summer, offering a total of 1.1 million seats.
For short- and medium-haul routes, Iberia focused its growth on its main European markets, especially France and Italy. The airline also resumed service to its most in-demand summer destinations, such as Catania, Olbia, Cagliari, and Palermo in Italy; Dubrovnik, Zagreb, and Split in Croatia; Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu in Greece; as well as Ljubljana and Tirana in Eastern Europe.
Boosting Operations with Charter Flights
In addition to its regular schedule, Grupo Iberia strengthened its operations with charter flights, especially on weekends and during the two-summer long weekends. In total, more than 160 charter flights were added, many of them providing logistical support to cruise companies, connecting with key ports in the Mediterranean and across Europe.
Destinations served by these charter flights included Hamburg, Athens, Catania, Bari, Venice, Skopje, Trieste, and Istanbul, expanding the group’s offerings and responding to customer demand.
Summer’s Most Popular Destinations
This summer, Grupo Iberia’s customers favored beach destinations in Spain, with Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Palma de Mallorca, and Ibiza standing out. In Europe, the most visited cities were London, Paris, and Rome, while in Latin America, Bogotá and Mexico City were the top choices.
