American Airlines and AAdvantage® members have raised more than $1.2 million for the American Red Cross to support relief efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa. The funds will be used where they are needed most in coordination with global Red Cross partners. This incredible response reflects the generosity of American’s AAdvantage® members and the strength of the longstanding partnership with the Red Cross.

“We are proud to join forces with the Red Cross and Airlink to deliver critical aid to those affected by Hurricane Melissa,” said Caroline Clayton, American’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Caring for customers extends to supporting the communities we serve in their most heartbreaking and critical hours of need. We’re especially grateful to our AAdvantage® members whose generosity helped make this possible.”

American has been a member of the Red Cross’s Annual Disaster Giving Program, a group of forward-thinking donors who provide support in advance of disasters, since 2014.

How to help

Fundraising is ongoing. From now through Nov. 11, AAdvantage® members can earn 10 miles for every dollar donated to the Red Cross with a minimum $25 donation. Every contribution helps deliver hope and essential resources to those impacted by this hurricane. To donate and earn miles, visit redcross.org/aa.

Donated AAdvantage® miles enable critical aid missions for Airlink and the Red Cross. Members can also donate AAdvantage® miles through Miles for Social Good to help organizations like these expand their recovery efforts in the aftermath of disasters both big and small.

American also supports UNICEF USA through its Change for Good program, an alliance between UNICEF and the international airline industry that converts spare change donated by customers into critical services and supplies for vulnerable children worldwide. Since partnering in 1994, American’s flight attendants have helped raise more than $18 million to support UNICEF’s humanitarian efforts. Donations collected on international flights help fund emergency response in countries like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and beyond.
