The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2025 opened in Panama City, Panama, hosted by the Autoridad Aeronáutica Civil de Panamá (AAC Panama). The event brings together air traffic management leaders, regulators, and aviation professionals from across the Latin America and Caribbean region and beyond. Over three days, participants will be sharing experiences and discuss how to strengthen the region’s airspace through collaboration, innovation, and leadership.
The conference provides a platform for leaders across the region to engage in discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing air traffic management in Latin America and the Caribbean, including safety, operational efficiency, sustainability, and new technologies. At the event, industry leaders will work together on practical solutions and exchange ideas on how to prepare the region for future growth.
The theme for this year’s event, “Redefining Regional Skies: Innovation, Integration and Leadership for the Future of Airspace in Latin America and the Caribbean,” reflects the region’s growing importance in global aviation. The programme includes a CEO workshop on strategic leadership, a discussion on how the roadmap on shaping future skies through the Complete Air Traffic Systems (CATS) Global Council Concept of Operations (CONOPS) can be applied regionally, and a session on the integration of space launch operations.
During the opening remarks this morning, Simon Hocquard, President & CEO of CANSO, said: “The Latin America and the Caribbean region continues to show incredible momentum and collaboration in advancing air traffic management. This conference is a reminder that by working together, embracing innovation, and building strong leadership, the region can redefine what is possible for our skies.”
Captain Rafael Bárcenas Chiari, Director General of AAC Panama, added: “We are proud to host this year’s CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference and to welcome our colleagues and partners from across the region. Panama has long been a crossroads for connectivity, and this event is an opportunity to share ideas, strengthen cooperation, and help shape the next chapter of aviation in our region.”
Her Excellency, Eng. Gloria De León, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Panama, has also attended the opening ceremony of the event and has welcomed the delegates in her remarks: “We are delighted that CANSO chose Panama as the host for this event. Located in the heart of the Americas, our country has established itself as a benchmark for air connectivity.
