The CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Award for Excellence 2025 was presented to Empresa Cubana de Navegación Aérea (ECNA), the country’s national air navigation service provider (ANSP) in recognition of its outstanding achievement, innovation, and leadership in aviation safety.
This award honours ANSPs that demonstrate excellence in enhancing safety performance and culture within the air navigation services community in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
As Javier Vanegas, Director Latin America and Caribbean Affairs commented: “ANSPs are the custodians of airspace. ECNA’s submission stood out for its exceptional commitment to operational safety, marked by measurable results and strong regional collaboration.”
The organisation has achieved a 60 per cent reduction in Air Traffic Services (ATS) incidents, advanced its Safety Performance Indicators, and adopted fatigue management initiatives ahead of regional standards. These milestones highlight ECNA’s determination to move beyond compliance and deliver meaningful safety improvements with tangible operational impact.
In addition to its internal progress, ECNA has played an active role in CANSO initiatives and safety forums, demonstrating leadership that benefits the broader regional aviation community. Its contributions support CANSO’s ongoing mission to promote a safer, more efficient, and more collaborative global airspace.
Vanegas added: “CANSO congratulates ECNA on this well-deserved recognition and values its continued leadership and dedication to safety across the region.”
