  • Among the many reasons for being present at the main event of the year organized by USTOA, stands out increasing the number of visitors from the United States and Canada to the island.
  • At the same time, the Tenerife delegation will meet with representatives of United Airlines with a view to promoting the three direct flights a week that will link New York with the island, starting in June 2022

From yesterday and until December 10th, Turismo de Tenerife is participating in the Annual Congress of the Association of Tour Operators of the United States (USTOA). The event will allow the island to come into contact with the North American tourism industry and thus open up to this important travel market, where the possibilities have been significantly expanded, after the connection that United Airlines will launch, starting in June 2022, with three weekly flights between New York and Tenerife South Airport.

Tenerife’s Director of Tourism, Laura Castro, points out the relevance of being present at an event of this type given “the potential market that only in the USA is over 330 million people. And then there is Canada, with about 40 million more”.

The Tenerife representation at the USTOA congress is led by the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David M. Perez, who highlights that their aim covers several objectives “from presenting Tenerife as an aspirational destination to positioning it in the traveler’s top of mind with a view to the summer season of 2022 and, ultimately, to increase the number of visitors from the United States and Canada.”

Pérez explains that Tenerife’s agenda at the congress is presenting the island’s main attractions as a destination before the tourism industry in the USA. Tenerife is present at USTOA as part of a trade mission organized by the Turespaña office in New York. Catalonia is another Spanish region attending.

In addition to this presentation, there will be meetings with tour operators such as Globus, Signature Travel Network, United Vacations, Collette, The Travel Corporation USA and Avanti Destinations.

The Tenerife delegation will also meet with representatives of United Airlines in order to jointly promote their soon-to-be launched direct flight between New York City and Tenerife.
