Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) is pleased to announce that Palmerola International Airport, Honduras has received the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program certification, granted to ACI member airports that are aligned and compliant with the health protocols proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) recommendations and the ACI Business Restart and Recover guidelines.

The Palmerola International Airport, together with the airport authorities, implemented modern biosecurity equipment, such as thermographic cameras, among others, from the beginning of its operations. In addition to the installation of sanitizers and educational signage on the biosecurity processes to be followed inside the terminal.

Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC, comments: “Air transport is a key part of the global economic recovery and Palmerola International Airport’s achievement of being accredited through ACI’s Airport Sanitary Accreditation program will promote the harmonization of sanitary measures and facilitate the recovery of aviation”.

Dr. Echevarne also explained that this certificate recognizes the airport’s compliance with biosecurity measures to safeguard the health of passengers, as well as contribute to the recovery of the aviation industry.

Peter Fleming, CEO of the airports division of Grupo-Emco, emphasized that “all the efforts made in the implementation of the protocols are aimed at ensuring the safety and health of our passengers”.

“The delivery of this accreditation is a crucial element that motivates us to continue strengthening our strategy to continue offering a safe and pleasant travel experience, based on biosecurity,” said Fleming.

The implementation of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program is important because it allows airports to demonstrate to passengers, staff, and other regulators that their top priority is health and safety in a measurable, coordinated, and established manner.

The program evaluates cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, communication with passengers, and passenger facilities.

ACI-LAC encourages airports to be part of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program, as it is a tool that helps airports to continue implementing health protocols in order to generate confidence for the welfare of passengers, staff, and the general public and to continue with the main priority of the aviation industry, which is aviation safety, and now more the health of its user.
