This summer, many travel restrictions are being removed by the Canadian and American federal governments. This might mean you’ll be travelling for the first time in three years!

Edmonton International Airport (EIA) has partnered with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to ensure that all our passengers are equipped with the most current information to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Below are a few tips from CATSA for a quick and efficient security process this summer:

  • Have your boarding pass ready to be scanned by the screening officer.
  • Place loose or small metal items such as coins and keys in your carry-on bag.
  • Make sure your liquids, aerosols and gels are in containers no larger than 100ml. Place these items in a clear, 1L resealable plastic bag and place it in the bin (one bag per passenger).
  • Unpack your laptop computer and place it in the bin, with nothing on top or underneath it. Place your resealable plastic bag with liquids in the bin with your laptop so it’s easy to identify your items after x-ray.
  • Ensure that all electronic devices, including mobile phones, tablets and laptops can be removed from cases and powered on.
  • Spices and rubs containing salt, bath salts and sand are recommended for checked baggage – certain powders and granular materials in your carry-on are limited to a total quantity of 350 ml or less (roughly the size of a soda can)
  • Passengers are encouraged to arrive at their departing airport two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours in advance for US and international flights.
  • Passengers should also be prepared for security screening and can visit the CATSA website at www.catsa.gc.ca and download the “Breeze through security” mobile app for more information.

Even though an increase in passenger traffic is expected this summer, EIA is well-positioned to handle the growth, and no significant delays are foreseen. Follow these tips provided above, and you’ll soar through security and have ample time to enjoy the many shops, services, and restaurants EIA has to offer.

“We know many people who have had to defer their travel plans over the last few years will be coming through EIA this summer. And with the recent regulatory changes to make travel more accessible and efficient, we are expecting a very busy summer travel season, with many passengers coming through the airport who have not flown in some time. We are ready to welcome these travellers and hope that these travel tips help make their experience as enjoyable as possible.”
