  • Ecuador is one of the two countries in South America, along with Brazil, in which Iberia connects Madrid with two local cities: Quito and Guayaquil

Iberia wanted to join the celebration of the bicentennial of the city of Quito, giving its most advanced aircraft the name of the capital of Ecuador.

Specifically, it is an A350 that joined the airline’s fleet last December and that, since yesterday, has been part of its flight schedule.

This aircraft with the registration EC-NXE and with the name “Ciudad de Quito” is part of a new standard from the manufacturer Airbus, an improved version of this model of which Iberia has been the launch airline and, furthermore, it is the first that has been equipped with the new Business, Premium Economy and Tourist cabins.

At the moment, this plane has permits to fly to the US, Argentina, Chile and Colombia, but the company is in the process of getting it to fly to all its destinations in Latin America where it operates with the A350 fleet.

Ecuador, one of the countries with the greatest connectivity

The choice of Quito as the name for the new Iberia A350 Next aircraft was not random, since Ecuador is precisely one of the countries in which the Spanish airline has deployed greater connectivity with Spain. In fact, this is one of the two countries, along with Brazil, in which Iberia connects Madrid with two local cities, in this case with Quito and Guayaquil.

It should be remembered that for the current winter season, Iberia increased its frequencies to six per week in the case of Quito, and three weekly flights to Guayaquil, which means an offer of nine flights each week between both countries.

Regarding plans for the future, in the midst of Iberia’s commitment to continue strengthening itself in Ecuador, the airline had to consolidate the increases that were initially going to be for the winter season and make them permanent throughout 2023, with the objective to continue promoting connectivity and reach the daily flight with Quito.
