ALTA launches Journalism Award

From June 12th, registrations will be open for the first edition of ALTA – Periodismo de Altura Award. The contest organized by the Latin American & Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) aims at disseminating, encouraging and rewarding journalistic pieces regarding the aviation industry and its impact on the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to ALTA’s Executive Director & CEO, José Ricardo Botelho, the objective is to recognize the contribution of the professionals that help society have a more comprehensive picture of the advances in the industry and the importance of this activity for the economy, politics, and culture in the countries. “During the pandemic, journalists played a fundamental role, with a huge impact, as they were in charge of sending clear information within such uncertainty. This award is a way to recognize and thank those who carry out the hard work of keeping everyone in our region informed. Aviation is an essential service in our countries and there is a lot to tell about this industry that generates socio-economic wellbeing.”

The award has two categories – Competitiveness and ESG – and registrations are open from June 12, 2023 to September 1, 2023. The award is for journalists who work in print and digital media.

In addition to a cash prize, the winners in each category will also win a travel to attend the award ceremony to be held in Cancun on October 23, during the most important aviation leaders conference in Latin American and the Caribbean – the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum, which will bring together over 400 industry decision-makers, including 50 airline CEOs.

To participate, journalists must submit an article published in a digital or printed media (newspaper, website, blog, magazine or news site) between September 17, 2022 and September 1, 2023 on one of the category topics. The pieces must be registered exclusively through the ALTA website https://alta.aero/en/periodismo-de-alta-award/ from June 12 to September 1, 2023.

In the ESG category, ALTA will recognize the two most outstanding reports on topics related to sustainability, society and governance in LAC’s aviation. In the Competitiveness category, ALTA will award two articles about the progress of regulations in our countries in order to facilitate the development of civil aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The pieces will be assessed by the contest’s judging committee, which will score them according to four criteria: relevance to the topic; technical quality; originality; and an illustrative and innovative approach to the topic.
