Amid record air travel this Thanksgiving, U.S. airlines recorded a 99.9% completion factor (compared to 99.6% last year) and an 83.1% on-time arrival rate (compared to 80.6% last year) over the past 10 days, from November 17-26. In 2023, the completion factor for U.S. airlines is 98.6% – higher than it was in 2018, 2019 and 2022. Additional data is available on A4A’s State of Commercial Aviation slide deck, which is updated daily.

To prepare for this year’s holiday travel season, U.S. airlines worked for months to ensure they would be ready. Specifically, they:

  • Continued hiring aggressively to ensure that the right people were in the right place at the right time;
  • Adjusted schedules to accommodate demand;
  • And invested heavily in technology to improve communications with passengers.

“Our passengers are the core of the U.S. airline industry and the backbone of what we do day in and day out. This is why A4A passenger carriers have been preparing for months on end to ensure 30 million travelers arrived at their destinations safely and efficiently this Thanksgiving.” – Rebecca Spicer, Senior Vice President of Communications
