Iberia celebrates 50 years of flights between Madrid and Dakar. To commemorate this special date, the Spanish airline organized an event at the residence of the Ambassador of Spain in Senegal, Dolores Ríos Pese. On behalf of the Spanish airline, Juan Carlos Alvarez Flores, Iberia’s Africa commercial delegate, and Jose Emilio García Martínez, Iberia’s commercial representative in Senegal, were in charge of the event, where, in addition to Mrs. Ríos Peset, different actors in the tourism industry and the country’s business fabric were in attendance.
50 years flying to Dakar
On October 24, 1974, a Boeing 727 plane, which could carry up to 153 passengers, took off for the first time from Madrid to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and then continued to Dakar. At that time, Iberia operated this route once a week. Today Iberia offers up to two daily flights and flies with the Airbus A321, with capacity for up to 217 passengers. This aircraft is one of the most modern and efficient in the Spanish airline’s fleet for its short and medium-haul routes, which symbolizes its commitment to innovation, sustainability and excellence in service to its passengers.
200,000 seats between Spain and Senegal
Iberia offers its customers up to two daily direct flights between Madrid and Dakar, or in other words up to 10 weekly frequencies. During 2024, the Spanish airline has put more 220,000 seats on sale, which represents an increase of more than 40% compared to 2019.
