- Aruba Airport Hosted a Book Signing Moment with Mauricio Boekhoudt, Author of IDOOR and Others
A Book About the Rich History of Aruba’s Aviation
Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) is proud to celebrate the launch of the book IDOOR and Others: Aruba’s Aviation History 1923-1950, written by aviation expert Mauricio Boekhoudt, IAP. This remarkable publication sheds light on the rich and fascinating history of aviation in Aruba, from its early days in 1923 through the development of the island as a key aviation hub in the Dutch West Indies.
Mauricio Boekhoudt has dedicated over 45 years to the aviation industry, beginning his career as an air traffic controller at Aruba’s airport and later serving as a strategic advisor to AAA. Through extensive research, he recognized a gap in the documented history of aviation in Aruba, which led him to embark on a journey to preserve this invaluable heritage. The result is an in-depth account of Aruba’s aviation evolution, including the island’s first landing strips in Savaneta, the establishment of commercial flight services, and Aruba’s pivotal role in regional and transatlantic air travel.
Aruba Airport is honored to have supported this important project in documenting the history of Aruba’s Aviation. As part of the celebration, AAA hosted an exclusive book signing event where employees had the unique opportunity to meet Mr. Boekhoudt and have their book copies personally signed by the author. This initiative reflects AAA’s commitment to preserving and promoting the island’s aviation legacy while fostering a deeper connection between its employees and the history of their industry.
“On behalf of Aruba Airport Authority, we sincerely thank Mauricio Boekhoudt for his dedication to documenting the history of aviation. His work is invaluable in preserving the stories and milestones that have shaped our industry, ensuring that future generations can appreciate and learn from them,” said Jurgen Benschop, Chief Operating Officer and Barbara Brown, Chief Revenue Development & Communications Officer at Aruba Airport during the event. “We truly appreciate his contribution and look forward to the impact his book will have on aviation enthusiasts and professionals alike.”
The publication of IDOOR and Others: Aruba’s Aviation History 1923-1950 marks a major contribution to Aruba’s historical archives and serves as an educational resource for future generations. Aruba Airport congratulates Mauricio Boekhoudt on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to further celebrating Aruba’s aviation heritage. The book “IDOOR and Others” is available for purchase at Plaza Bookshop Aruba.
