American Airlines has announced that it will add daily, year-round service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Milan, Italy (MXP) in March 2026. The new route is the only nonstop service between Miami and Milan and will be operated on a Boeing 787 aircraft. It complements the airline’s nonstop service between MIA and Rome (FCO), which launched earlier this summer.

Renowned for its fashion, art, and architecture, Milan is a bucket-list destination and makes for a perfect destination for South Florida travelers looking for that special Italian getaway. Additionally, its proximity to Lake Como gives customers the ease of traveling to the towns of the charming Italian lakeside.

“I am thrilled that American Airlines will strengthen its already robust commitment to Miami-Dade County by resuming daily flights between MIA and Milan for the first time since 2019. The renewed route follows American’s launch of Rome-Miami service in June and its announcement last month of 415 peak daily departures this winter at MIA – a new record! Thanks to American, our travelers can enjoy more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport, and soon, direct service to two popular destinations in Italy as well,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

Last week, American also announced that it is expanding seasonal service with up to three daily flights between Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE) and MIA in 2026. Anticipating more soccer fans from South America to travel north next summer, American is bringing more service to the air to ensure fans can cheer on their favorite teams when they take to the pitch.

“Our summer 2026 schedule is more than just expanding our Miami network—it’s about enabling connections for customers to celebrate their passions and visit the places they want to go. With our continued growth at MIA, coupled with a new Admirals Club® and Flagship® Lounge on the horizon, our investment in new and expanded international service reflects our long-term commitment to the community while showcasing its importance to American’s overall international network,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of Miami Operations.

With MXP returning to American’s Miami schedule for the first time since 2019, the airline will operate nonstop service from MIA to five transatlantic destinations next summer: Barcelona (BCN), London (LHR), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP) and Rome (FCO).
