For the second year running, VINCI Airports is hosting the Elektropostal tour, a long tour of France in electric aircraft, which demonstrates the aviation sector’s commitment to and progress in the use of less CO2-emitting energy. This 2021 edition consists of three Pipistrel Velis Electro. Two aircrafts are hosted on the tarmac of the airports of Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc, Lyon Bron and Grenoble Alpes Isère. Thanks to their electric propulsion system, these aircraft of the Elektropostal association emit little or no greenhouse gases.

The Elektropostal fleet flew from Payerne in Switzerland to Barcelona in Spain. Three of the 17 stops were at airports managed by VINCI Airports. The first stop on Thursday 23 September was at Chambéry airport, where a new electric recharging point, financed by the Savoie department, has just been installed to meet the needs of light aviation. The next stopovers on the VINCI Airports network were at Lyon Bron (28 September) and today at Grenoble Alpes Isère airport.

This new flight operation is fully in line with VINCI Airports’ ambitious environmental policy deployed at all its airports since 2016, which has resulted in a significant reduction in its carbon footprint (22% reduction in gross CO2 emissions between 2018 and 2020 across its network) and which aims to achieve zero net emissions for all the network’s airports in France by 2030.
The use of energy sources that emit less CO2 is part of VINCI Airports’ overall action plan to contribute to the decarbonisation of aviation with all the players in the air transport sector: sustainable airports, incentives to renew airline fleets for less emissive aircraft, development of biofuels, preparation of airports for the arrival of the hydrogen aircraft, etc.
