On April 8, 1980, twelve airlines gathered in Bogotá to establish what was then known as AITAL, driven by the vision of increasing connectivity across our countries. Today, as the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), we honor this legacy with an eye toward the future, committed to fostering an increasingly accessible and environmentally responsible aviation. Over these decades, LAC aviation has experienced remarkable growth. Since 1980, the number of passengers carried in Latin America and the Caribbean has increased sevenfold, and the number of direct international routes has more than doubled since the 1990s.
