OMA reports 1.35 million passenger traffic in February 2022

Canadian North Launches New Direct Iqaluit–Toronto Summer Service, with Flights Starting June 2022

Source: Canadian North Flights will operate twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays, from June 3 until September 30, in time for the summer travel season. Weekend getaways or week-long excursions will all be possible in either direction. Spirit Airlines Announces Additional Pilot & Flight Attendant Crew Bases in Miami & Atlanta

Volaris Reports February 2022 Traffic Results: 81% YoY demand growth with an 83% Load Factor

In February, Volaris' capacity (measured in ASMs) increased 62.0% YoY, while demand (measured in RPMs) was up 80.8% YoY; load factor increased 8.6 pp YoY to 82.7%. In the month, Volaris transported 2.1 million passengers, an 86.7% increase YoY. Spirit Expands in Mexico with New, Daily Nonstop Flights from Monterrey to Austin & Houston

Finnair starts change negotiations regarding furlough needs arising from the closure of Russian airspace

Finnair has today called employee representatives to discuss plans regarding possible furloughs of up to 90 days, which, if implemented, would impact Finnair flight crews. The estimated need for additional monthly furloughs for pilots ranges from 90 to 200 and for cabin crew from 150 to 450 employees starting from April. The final furlough need, however, depends on how the exceptional situation progresses and what mitigations can be found and will be defined during the negotiations. MIA says benvenuta to ITA Airways

Source: MIA New Italian national airline launches Miami-Rome service Miami-Dade County and ITA Airways officials hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Miami International Airport on March 1 to celebrate the launch of Rome-Miami service by the new national airline of Italy. ITA Airways is beginning the new service with three weekly roundtrip flights, which will grow to five weekly flights in April and then increase to daily flights in June. Italy was one of MIA's top 20 international markets before the pandemic, generating nearly 400,000 total passengers in 2019. Italy is not currently served by any other airline at MIA. ITA Airways is totally owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and has been active since November 2020.
