Aerospace Maintenance Competition 2023: Spinning wrenches, winning trophies

Source: American Airlines The 2023 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) is in the books. More than 80 teams from around the world competed in 26 events in the two-day competition. American Airlines sponsored six teams of aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) from across the system and student teams from Aviation Institute of Maintenance — Chicago, George T. Baker Aviation Technical College in Miami and Tulsa Tech in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Three of American’s teams and all three American-sponsored student teams took home top spots in a number of events. Here are highlights from this year’s competition which was held April 18–20 in Atlanta. American’s AMTs are already looking forward to the 2024 AMC in Chicago.

Air Canada Pilots Vote to Merge with ALPA

Source: ALPA The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) and the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) issued the following joint statement after Air Canada pilots voted to merge with ALPA. With 91.6 percent of eligible Air Canada pilots participating, 84.2 percent voted in favor of the merger. “Air Canada pilots voted overwhelmingly to approve a merger with ALPA, making clear they believe that we are stronger together. With this historic vote, Air Canada pilots have signaled, unequivocally, they want to join the world’s largest pilots union in negotiating strong contracts, establishing better working conditions, and advancing aviation safety.” The final step in the merger process will be on May 17 when ALPA’s Executive Board will vote to ratify the agreement. Hawaiian Airlines 2023 Corporate Kuleana Report Highlights Path to Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050

Source: Hawaiian Airlines Hawaiian Airlines published its 2023 Corporate Kuleana (Responsibility) report describing the carrier’s progress on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities. In the past year, Hawaiʻi’s hometown airline has advanced its sustainability goals to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, reduce single-use plastics from cabin service and offer more locally sourced food onboard. Hawaiian’s decarbonization roadmap includes interim targets to lower GHG emissions and focuses heavily on replacing petroleum jet fuel with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Hawaiian is purchasing 50 million gallons of SAF from biofuel company Gevo, Inc., starting in 2029.
