Barni of San Francisco International Airport voted TSA’s Cutest Canine of 2024

Source: TSA Barni, a 5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, an explosives detection canine at San Francisco International Airport, is the winner of the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) 2024 Cutest Canine Contest. Last week, TSA held its annual nationwide social media contest on Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook, where the public voted for the agency's "cutest canine" from among four finalists. TSA canine handlers from airports and enforcement handlers across the country initially nominated the canine candidates. TSA employees then voted and narrowed the original field of 87 paws-itively cute contenders to the final four canines, all of whom deserve a round of a-paws. "Our explosives detection canines and their handlers are an essential component of TSA's multi-layered approach [...]

Talks entered private mediation in January 2024 and lasted until June 2024, at which point the union decided to file a notice of dispute and enter conciliation because the two sides were unable to reach a new collective agreement. “More than 5,400 [...]

FAA Proposed $341,413 in Civil Penalties Against Drone Operations

Source: FAA The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed $341,413 in civil penalties against 27 people who violated federal drone regulations. The FAA issued the fines between October 2022 and June 2024. Drone operators who conduct unsafe or unauthorized operations face fines up to $75,000 per violation, an increase included in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. The FAA also can suspend or revoke drone operators’ pilot certificates. “Violating the drone regulations puts lives at risk in the air and on the ground,” said FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker. “Flying a small drone means you are flying an aircraft, and unsafe behavior will cost you.” The FAA encourages people to report unsafe and unauthorized drone operations to their local Flight Standards District Office. The FAA has now referred more than 310 of the most serious cases to the FBI since late 2021 under a partnership aimed at ensuring unruly airline passengers face criminal prosecution when warranted. When the FAA refers incidents to the FBI, the FBI works closely with law enforcement partners and appropriate agencies to conduct an investigation if applicable. "Dangerous passengers put everyone at risk—and the Biden-Harris Administration has been clear that those who disrupt flights will be held accountable," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. "Unruly travelers face stiff fines from the FAA and possible criminal prosecution too." "There's [...]
