The International Air Market in Latin America and the Caribbean Grew by 10% in April

Source: ALTA Air passenger traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 7.4% in April 2024, totaling 38.8 million travelers, an increase of 2.7 million compared to April 2023. Notably, the international market saw a 10% growth, with 18.3 million passengers total. Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Panama were the five busiest countries by international  passenger numbers. The extra-regional international segment grew by 8.3%, reaching almost 14 million passengers, 1.06 million more than in April 2023. The most significant extra-regional international market by passenger numbers was Mexico-USA, with 3.3 million passengers in April. ACI-LAC, ANAC and ABR join forces to improve sustainability practices at Brazilian airports

FAA to Receive Launch and Reentry Flight Data from Two More Companies

Source: FAA The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) added two new companies to its Space Data Integrator (SDI) tool, which provides improved situational awareness and helps the FAA safely and efficiently manage air traffic during space operations. The agency can now track Virgin Galactic and Sierra Space vehicles in near-real time during their launch and reentry operations. The companies will transmit vehicle telemetry data – such as position, altitude, and speed – to the SDI tool, which helps to increase safety for all airspace users. ICAO leaders affirm global aviation priorities with Canadian PM and Ministers

DOT Secures Nearly $1 Billion in Refunds to Airline Passengers Through New Enforcement Actions

Source: US DOT Under President Biden, DOT has helped secure nearly $4 billion in refunds and reimbursements to airline passengers  The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced enforcement actions against Lufthansa, South African Airways, and KLM Royal Dutch Airways for extreme delays in providing more than $900 million in refunds owed to passengers due to flights cancelled or significantly changed in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
