TIACA Launches the 2nd Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey

Source: TIACA The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) announced that they have launched the 2nd Annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey. With this year’s survey, we aim to measure the progress the air cargo community has made in its journey towards a sustainable industry within the last year. Consistent with the first edition we look forward to receiving responses from the entire air cargo industry: shippers and consignees, forwarders, airlines, airports, ground handlers, manufacturers, IT solution providers; regardless of size or geographic location. FAA Levies $225,287 Against Passengers for Alleged Assault-Related Unruly Behavior

Source: FAA The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes $225,287 in civil penalties against 10 airline passengers for alleged unruly behavior involving physical assault. Since Jan. 1, 2021, the FAA has received more than 100 reports of passenger disturbances involving physical assault. Federal law prohibits passengers from assaulting fellow passengers or crew aboard a flight. The rate of unruly passenger incidents on commercial flights has dropped sharply since the FAA launched its Zero Tolerance campaign but the rate remains too high. ACI’s World Airport Traffic Report reveals domestic traffic leading recovery

According to the Report, the COVID-19 outbreak reduced the number of passengers at the world's airports by more than 5.6 billion in 2020 and is forecast to remove an additional 4.6 billion passengers by the end of 2021, compared to 2019 volumes. September Airline Industry Employment Dips Slightly from August, Remains 3.3% Below Pre-Pandemic September 2019

Source: US DOT U.S. airlines employed 718,111 workers in September 2021, which is 814 (0.1%) fewer workers than in August 2021 and 24,289 (3.3%) fewer than in pre-pandemic September 2019. The September industry-wide numbers include 615,352 full-time and 103,459 part-time workers, an increase from August of 753 full-time workers and a decrease of 1,567 part-time workers. As of September, the U.S. airline industry is operating with 34,571 fewer employees (4.6%) than at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Source: IATA Key points: Initial Q3 financial results indicate that pressure on airlines’ profitability eased further compared with Q2 as passenger traffic restarted on some domestic and short-haul routes with the reopening of markets. Global airline share price index ticked down in October, reflecting investors’ concerns about the impact of rising jet fuel prices on airlines’ financial recovery. The performance gap between wider equity markets and airline stocks widened. The jet fuel price continued to trend upwards in recent weeks as economic activity restarts around the world and supply remains tight. U.S. DOT delivers new assistance to protect aviation manufacturing jobs—and reopens application process one last time

Source: US DOT The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced that it will offer an additional $184 million in funding provided by the American Rescue Plan to 158 more aviation manufacturing businesses. The Aviation Manufacturing Jobs Protection Program (AMJP) is helping protect nearly 30,000 American manufacturing jobs across 41 states and Puerto Rico. These new awards, combined with the first round of funding in September, brings the total to $626* million to help protect aviation manufacturing jobs. At the same time, DOT has announced that it will reopen the application process one last time. Final applications will be due on Monday, December 13, 2021. The ATCR is designed to assist consumers with information on the quality of services provided by airlines. Latin America and Caribbean flying returns to 76% of 2019 levels

Source: ACI-LAC New, special report from Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean and Cirium reveals Flight capacity has returned to 76% of pre-pandemic levels for Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a new, special report released today by Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) and Cirium, the aviation data company.  Approximately 74% of the capacity is domestic flying and 26% is international. Three Military Airports Now Eligible for Funding to Add Civilian Operations

Source: FAA The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected three airports to be eligible for grants to add civilian aviation operations at former and current military airfields, adding system capacity and helping to reduce congestion at existing airports.
